Alumni Annual Reception
August 23, 2012
On August 23, U.S. Ambassador Maura Connelly hosted over 250 Lebanese alumni of U.S. Government-funded exchange and educational programs at a reception at her residence. For more than 20 years, this annual event has brought together the growing number of Lebanese who have traveled to the United States on a Fulbright or Humphrey scholarship, as an international visitor, as part of our network of Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) exchanges and programs, or participated in any of the other programs the Embassy sponsors.
Speaking to the alumni, Ambassador Connelly stressed on the importance of cultural and educational exchanges to the overall relationship between Lebanon and the United States: "You are an important part of the bilateral relationship between Lebanon and the United States. We share so many values and principles: Americans and Lebanese represent diverse societies who promote education, liberty, and democracy."
The Lebanese State Alumni Community (LSAC) and MEPI Lebanon Alumni Association (MEPI LAA) board members attended the reception and expressed their continued joint efforts to provide Alumni with more opportunities. Ambassador Connelly congratulated both organizations for their joint efforts: “I’m also glad to hear that the LSAC and MEPI-LAA boards are working together to provide their members more opportunities to network and contribute to promoting a stronger Lebanon and stronger ties between our countries.”
