English Teaching Programs

Public Diplomacy Beirut's support for education includes programs to strengthen English language teaching. To that end, the U.S. Government is funding the placement of three English Language Fellows (ELF) in Lebanon during the 2005-06 academic year. Working with local organizations, the ELFs nurture Lebanese teachers by providing consultation and teacher training in the basic elements of language teaching (classroom management, methodology, linguistics, etc.) The ELFs encourage a vision of the English language classroom as a means of introducing important content materials (civic and environmental education, conflict resolution) as a platform for demonstrating democratic, student-centered classroom practices inherent to the global educational experience.

English language teachers from around Lebanon, especially those who have participated in Embassy-sponsored workshops, are invited to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on best teaching practices. Click on the link below to send in “comments” or success stories, challenges and helpful teaching tips, and review highlights and photos of recent workshops. You'll also find useful links for English language educators. Visit: http://eltlebanon.blogspot.com
