The ExxonMobil Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Scholars Program – Deadline October 1, 2011

The Embassy of the United States in Beirut invites Lebanese students who have a bachelor’s degree in certain fields to apply for a scholarship for a master's degree in the United States funded by ExxonMobil.

Candidates must have lived in the Middle East/North Africa for 15 years, be fluent in Arabic and have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: geology or geophysics; electrical, computer, mechanical, civil, chemical, or petroleum engineering, physics, chemistry, math, or geography.

Through this unique scholarship opportunity, ExxonMobil aims to contribute to the Middle East and North Africa region by helping to develop highly skilled and culturally adept individuals.

Scholarship recipients will be placed by the Institute of International Education (IIE) in a leading university in the United States, according to the strengths and research interests of the applicant. Recipients receive full tuition, housing and living expense stipends, medical insurance, and textbook and computer allowances. The award also includes transportation to the United States, visa and academic support, an intensive orientation program, and a yearly professional development and networking conference. Summer internships with ExxonMobil are also possible.

Finalists for the scholarship are invited to a three day short course, traditionally held in Turkey or the United Arab Emirates. Short course attendees will develop business skills related to the energy industry and network with colleagues from across the Middle East and North Africa regions.
