New Non-Immigrant Visa Appointment System

New Non-Immigrant Visa Appointment System

Why is the U.S. Embassy making these changes now?

As part of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon’s efforts to streamline the non-immigrant visa application process, the Embassy is implementing a new non-immigrant visa appointment service on August 16, 2013.  This system, already in use in several countries, will make it easier for applicants to learn about non-immigrant visa classes, schedule their non-immigrant visa interview appointments, ask questions, and check on the status of their non-immigrant visas.

Under the new process, an applicant can fill out the application online, pay the application fee at Credit Libanais, and schedule the appointment online.  Scheduling the appointment can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the comfort of home in English, Arabic, or French at http://www.ustraveldocs.com.

Applicants can also reach Call Center representatives available in Arabic, English, and French seven days a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m., Lebanon time at 01-964-659

Callers in the U.S. can speak to a Call Center representative in Arabic, English and French 7:00am – 3:00pm, Eastern Standard Time seven day a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays at 1-703-520-2244.

Information services will also be provided through chat and Skype on the website.

Why will these arrangements be better than what you had before?

You will be able to use a new online system that makes it easier for you to learn about non-immigrant visa classes, schedule a non-immigrant visa interview appointments up to several months in advance, ask questions, and check on the status of your non-immigrant visas.

You can Skype or chat on the website. You will be able to call the Call Center to make an appointment or have your questions answered at no extra charge.  You do not have to pay to make another appointment if you missed your first one-you can reschedule for free.

It will also allow people in the United States to call a local number to make inquiries about visa cases.

As for customer service, emails are usually responded to within one business day and most of the calls are answered in 45 seconds.

What exactly will change?

There is a website, in Arabic, English, and French, to provide information about non-immigrant visa classes, how to apply for a U.S. non-immigrant visa, and how to schedule an appointment 24 hours a day, seven days a week at http://www.ustraveldocs.com

The website is also the place to ask questions and inquire about the status of the case.

The website will also provide Skype and web chat options.

Call Center numbers are offered for both Lebanon and the United States.  Call Center representatives can answer your question in Arabic, English, and French seven days a week. Callers in Lebanon can ring 01-964-659, seven days a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Callers in the U.S. can speak to a Call Center representative 7:00am – 3:00pm, Eastern Standard Time seven day a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays at 1-703-520-2244.

What will be the same?

The bank where you pay the fee:  Credit Libanais

The currencies you can use to pay to the fee:  U.S. Dollars or Lebanese Pounds.

When will the changes go into effect?

August 16, 2013.

Is this website secure?

Yes.  The applicant's personal information and transactions on this website are secured with a Web server certificate through Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.

Can I access the website more than once using the same login information?

Login information will allow you to access the Website and schedule/reschedule as many times as you would like before the reschedule/cancel deadline in the confirmation email.

When can I reach the call center?

Beginning August 16, 2013, Call Center representatives will be available in Arabic, English, and French seven days a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m, Lebanon time at 01-964-659.

Callers from the U.S. can speak to a Call Center representative in Arabic, English and French 7:00am – 3:00pm Eastern Time seven day a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays at 1-703-520-2244.

Can I schedule an appointment before I pay the fee?

No. Pay your fee first and then schedule your appointment.

If I don’t get a non-immigrant visa, can I get the fee refunded?

No. As before, the non-immigrant visa application fee is not refundable.  The application fees cover the cost of making consular services available world-wide.

How far in advance can I schedule my appointment?

Appointments will be available for months into the future.

Why should I apply now if I’m not traveling until later?

If you apply as soon as you know you want to travel, rather than waiting to the last minute, you can be sure that you will have your non-immigrant visa in plenty of time, and then you can make the most advantageous travel arrangements.  Airline fares often become more expensive if tickets are purchased close to departure.  However, never buy tickets until you have your non-immigrant visa in hand!

I couldn’t find an appointment for my intended trip.  What can I do?

Log in again.  If you haven’t scheduled an appointment yet, please look at the calendar again.  Availability can often change, due to other applicants canceling their appointments.  If you wish to change a previously booked appointment, you must cancel your current appointment to view the calendar.  If you feel the travel situation is an emergency, you should refer to the Expedited Appointments information located in the left hand menu on http://www.ustraveldocs.com for more information.

What languages can I use?

  • Arabic
  • English
  • French

What if I don’t have access to the internet?

The process requires all applicants to complete the visa application, the DS-160, online.  However, you can call our Call Center in Arabic, English, and French seven days a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m, Lebanon time at 01-964-659 to schedule an appointment with a live operator.  Callers from the U.S. can speak to a Call Center representative in Arabic, English and French 7:00am – 3:00pm Eastern Time seven day a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays at 1-703-520-2244.

Won’t it take longer to get an appointment this way?

No. As always, the availability of appointments will be affected by demand and the availability of consular officers.  Spring and summer are always busier than fall and winter.  You can apply well in advance before you travel when there are appointments available.

What are the steps to apply for a U.S. visa under this new system?

Visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com. Create a profile.

Click on Schedule My Appointment option on the left-hand side of your screen. Complete steps for Visa Type, Post, Visa Category and Visa Class.

Once you are on the payment screen, print your deposit slip.  Each member of a family or group should be considered as a separate transaction. If the deposit slip expires before the date you pay at the bank, you will need to print a new slip.

Take your deposit slip to any Credit Libanais location to pay your visa application fee.

After paying the fee, save the receipt for your records.  You will need the visa fee receipt number to schedule your visa appointment.

Once you pay your visa fee, you can schedule an appointment for your visa interview online at http://www.ustraveldocs.com or by phone through the Call Center in Arabic, English, and French seven days a week, excluding U.S. and Lebanese holidays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m., Lebanon time at 01-964-659.

What happens if I lose a passport and obtain another one before the scheduled appointment date?

You can attend the scheduled appointment and present the new passport.  If you are not able to obtain a new passport before the scheduled appointment date, you must cancel or reschedule the appointment.  You will not be able to apply for a non-immigrant visa without a valid passport.  Please bring a copy of a police report if the passport was stolen.

What if I already have an appointment scheduled?

Keep your appointment as planned.  There will be no changes for those non-immigrant visa applicants who have already made a visa interview appointment prior to August 16 – even if the actual appointment date is in the future.  Keep your appointment as planned; there is no change to an appointment that you have already scheduled.  Please remember to bring the Credit Libanais fee receipt with you and present it at your appointment.  If, for any reason, you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, you may contact the non-immigrant visa section by email at BeirutNIV@state.gov to reschedule.

How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment under the new process?

After you schedule an appointment, the confirmation screen and confirmation email will show a date and time by which any changes to the appointment (reschedule or cancellation) must be made.  To reschedule or cancel the appointment, you must log into http://www.ustraveldocs.com using your passport number, date of birth and nationality.  Once you log in, you can select cancel or reschedule from the options on the Applicant Summary page.

How many times can I change the appointment date?

You can change the appointment date a limited amount of times.

How do I add a family member to an already scheduled appointment?

If you want to add a family member(s) after you have scheduled an appointment, you will need to cancel your appointment first.  Please note, depending on the calendar availability, there is no guarantee that you will be able to schedule the same date and time as originally scheduled.

To cancel your appointment you may log in to the system using your passport number, date of birth and nationality.  Once logged in, select Cancel from the options on the Applicant Summary Page.  When the appointment is cancelled, you will be prompted to add a family member.  You will need the DS-160 confirmation number and the MRV fee receipt number for each family member that you add.

You may not change or cancel any of the family member's appointments including yours on the date of the appointment.   You must wait until the day after your scheduled appointment in order to schedule again.

What happens if I cannot attend the interview on the appointment date? Can I give the appointment to someone else to attend instead?

You should reschedule or cancel appointments as soon as know that you cannot attend your scheduled date.   The appointment is non-transferable.  Only the person(s) scheduled will be allowed to enter and attend the appointment.  Another person cannot attend your appointment.

Can’t I pay my visa fee at the Embassy?

No.  Please pay your fee at Credit Libanais.  Otherwise, you will not be able to schedule an appointment for an interview.

I’m applying for an IMMIGRANT visa for Permanent Residence in the United States. Do I use this system?

There are different procedures for Immigrant Visas.  Please see the U.S. Embassy’s website at for details http://Lebanon.usembassy.gov
