U.S. Ambassador Visits School in Zahrani to Discuss Educational Assistance

April 28, 2009

Ambassador Michele Sison and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Denise Herbol today visited the Kfar Hetty Intermediate School in the Zahrani district.  They met with municipal leaders, administrators, teachers, and students to discuss the impact of American assistance through the Lebanon Education Assistance for Development Program (LEAD).

During her visit, Ambassador Sison told students and teachers that “Americans and Lebanese share a core value, the importance of education. We are all partners,” she said, “in ensuring the best education we can for the next generation. The U.S. supports Lebanon, and this is the best investment we can make in Lebanon’s future -- support for the kids.”

The Kfar Hetty Intermediate School is one of 283 public schools throughout Lebanon  participating in this three-year, $9.6 million U.S. program to renovate school buildings, provide science and computer laboratories, and launch extra- curricular activities for students and parents to create a community learning environment.   U.S. assistance provided Kfar Hetty Intermediate School with $28,000 for science laboratory equipment and an array of educational materials. This USAID program is implemented by the Cooperative Housing Foundation and the International Orthodox Christian Charities.
