U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Trained the Internal Security Forces
January 12, 2009
From December 15 to 19, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) trained thirty-five members of the Internal Security Forces' (ISF) Drug Enforcement Bureau in counter narcotics investigative and enforcement techniques in a five day program held at the ISF Academy in Warwar. The training will enable the ISF to combat drug trafficking, distribution and transport, as well as narcotics production in Lebanon. General Anwar Yehyah, head of the ISF Judicial Police, officiated at the graduation ceremony and awarded certificates to the graduates.
The training covered the following topics: drug identification and field testing, case initiation and development, surveillance, informant handling, interviewing and interrogation, report writing, drug arrests, and raid planning exercises, in addition to basic undercover activities and tactical training.
This training was part of the U.S. Government’s ongoing $76 million law enforcement assistance program to the ISF. The professional development of the ISF is critical for Lebanon’s sovereignty and security. The U.S. Government is committed to supporting Lebanon, the ISF and the Lebanese people.
