U.S. Government Continues Support to Women’s Education
April 7, 2009
On Saturday, April 4, the U.S. Embassy participated in the graduation ceremonies for over 80 women who participated in the six-month Women In Technology (WIT) training course in Jbeil.
The WIT program, funded by the Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), trains women in Microsoft’s “Unlimited Potential” program and develops professional skills. The Microsoft program included training in Microsoft Office, outlook and the internet. The professional skills training included enhancing communications skills, leadership and problem-solving skill development, job interview skills, and management training. The combination of technological and professional training enhances the women’s abilities to find employment.
The U.S. Government offers educational and training programs to Lebanese citizens through MEPI, the United States Agency for International Development and Public Diplomacy. With these programs, the United States is showing its support for Lebanon’s economic growth and the prosperity of its citizens.
Since 2006, the United States has provided more than $1.3 billion to Lebanon. This assistance focuses on support for Lebanese government institutions, and economic growth and stability.
