U.S. President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney hosted former Lebanese President Amine Gemayel at two meetings at the White House, February 7 and 8, 2007. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice also hosted President Gemayel at the Department of State.
In these meetings, American officials expressed the sympathy of the United States for the loss of President Gemayel's son, former Minister of Industry Pierre Gemayel, brutally assassinated last November. The meetings focused on the general situation in Lebanon as well as a number of bilateral concerns.
In every meeting, U.S. officials reaffirmed the commitment of the United States for a sovereign and democratic Lebanon.
