Lebanese Children from War Torn Villages Get Help Thanks to the Generosity of the American People

October 6, 2006

AIDCHF
USG funding provides outdoor activities for the children of three villages in south Lebanon by the recent hostilities...

Children cheer as they participate in outdoor interactive activities as part of the U.S. Government-funded Humanitarian Assistance in Lebanon (HAL) project. Implemented by the Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF), the project aims at providing psycho-social attention to communities affected by the recent violence in the areas of Yarine, Tibnine and Ghazieh in South Lebanon.

The project specifically targets 341 affected individuals, including children. Project components cover interactive activities that involve drawing, face painting, story telling, outdoor activities and awareness sessions on post-conflict trauma symptoms, anxiety and depression. Based on a preliminary assessment, results show that 60% of the targeted individuals had increased depression symptoms compared to their status before the war.
