The United States Celebrates Women Throughout March

March 1, 2007

women and AMB“Lebanese women are not represented in business and politics commensurate with their education and talents.”

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey D. Feltman.

Throughout March, the United States celebrates women and honors their contributions and accomplishments within their communities and all over the world.

Women of courage and great humanity are shaping society with their ideas and their actions and are inspiring women and young girls across the world to achieve their full potential.

The 2007 Women’s History Month theme, “Generations of Women Moving History Forward”, highlights the determination and resolve of generations of women in advancing the causes of justice and equality.

The National Women’s History Week was established in the United States in 1981.

In 1987, the Congress expanded the week to a month, and has since passed such a resolution every year. Congressional action is followed by a U.S. presidential proclamation declaring March as Women’s History Month.
