U.S. Embassy Announces International Leadership in Education Program (ILEP) in the United States

The U.S. Embassy announces the launching of this year’s competition for the 2008 International Leadership in Education Program (ILEP).  The ILEP offers secondary level, full time teachers of English as a foreign language, social studies, civics, mathematics or science a six-month program in the United States to include academic coursework and an internship in an American university or secondary school.  Applications must be received by the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Office by June 1, 2007.   

 

 

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, this new program provides teachers from the Near East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States.  The ILEP consists of a semester-long (January – June 2008) academic program at a U.S. university and includes an eight-week internship at a secondary school to engage participants with the American teachers and students.  Visits to U.S. cultural sites and academic support are an important component of this program.

 

 

The fellowship provides round-trip airfare from the participant’s home city to and within the U.S., academic program fees, accident and sickness insurance, shared housing, daily allowance for meals and incidentals, transportation allowance for travel to school internship, one laptop computer; and a book allowance. 

 

To apply, interested applicants must complete an application form.  If candidates have taken the TOEFL or a similar English proficiency exam, scores should be included.  Finalists will be required to take the TOEFL (low-income applicants may apply for fee waivers).  Applications must be received by the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Office by June 1, 2007.  Applications and more information are available on line at: http://lebanon.usembassy.gov/lebanon/Scholarships.html
