FBI Director Visits Lebanon
June 26, 2007U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Robert S. Mueller, III, visited Beirut, Lebanon on June 26, 2007, as one of several stops in the region to discuss law enforcement cooperation. Director Mueller met with Government of Lebanon officials responsible for the safety and security of the Lebanese people to reaffirm the support of the United States.
The United States and Lebanon have worked together for many years to eradicate terrorism and international crime. During his visit, Director Mueller met with Deputy Prime Minister Elias Murr, Minister of Interior Hassan Sabaa, Minister of Justice Charles Rizk, General Achraf Rifi, and other officials. Director Mueller highlighted the willingness of the FBI to harness the resources of its partners to help Lebanon strengthen its ability to fight crime and terrorism by providing training and equipment.
Director Mueller commended the determination of the Lebanese to build a united Lebanon in which all of the Lebanese people could enjoy security and stability, and the hope for a better future.
