U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman pays tribute to fallen members of the Lebanese Armed Forces |
U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman laid a wreath September 11 at the Ministry of Defense memorial to fallen members of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to honor the courageous men who died during Lebanon’s 105-day battle with Fatah al-Islam terrorists in the Nahr al-Bared camp. The United States Government and the American people recognize the high price paid by the LAF and civilians alike during the military campaign to rid Lebanon of this terrorist group. The Ambassador took the opportunity to pay respect to the fallen LAF today, the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, to highlight Lebanon’s and the United States’ shared struggle against terrorism. In 2001, Americans learned what the Lebanese have unfortunately known for decades: that terrorism does not discriminate based on age, religion, or national origin. Earlier in the day, Ambassador Feltman laid a wreath at the U.S. Embassy to commemorate the victims – including the four Lebanese citizens – of the 2001 terrorist attacks. During his remarks, he stated, “Today, a day of reflection on those we lost in both of our countries – Lebanon and the United States – allow me to re-affirm America’s support for Lebanon and the resilient Lebanese people. Let’s work together to achieve the stable, independent, and prosperous Lebanon that all Lebanese desire and deserve.”
