USAID Gives $86,365 to Two Lebanese Organizations to Assist Orphan Girls

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Raouf Youssef presented two checks in the total amount of $86,365 to two Lebanese organizations to strengthen their efforts to serve orphans, on May 22, 2007.The Infant Welfare Society received $47,390 from USAID to procure equipment for the institution’s kitchen. Located in Zahle, the Infant Welfare Society takes care of orphans and disadvantaged children, serving more than 150 young girls who come from troubled and very low income families from all areas in the Beqaa. The institution provides free of charge education, boarding, clothing, food and medical services for the girls under their care.
Franciscaines de la Croix du Liban Ecole des Soeurs de la Croix Broummana also received funds from USAID, in the amount of $38,975 to establish a computer center at the orphanage, as well as furnish the kitchen and the dormitory section with basic living equipment. The institution was established in 1950 and accommodates more than 60 girls who have been orphaned or come from troubled homes. The institution provides free schooling in Jal Ed-Dib and free housing at the center in Broummana. The institution also teaches the girls technical skills such as computer training, art works, handicrafts and other activities.
