United States Support of the Lebanese Armed Forces Continues

December 14, 2007

The United States delivered 30 more High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, commonly known as “Humvees,” to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) this past week.  This delivery is the latest in a series of equipment deliveries from U.S. security assistance funds which is an on-going program to assist the LAF.  By the end of 2007, 285 Humvees will have arrived in-country and more are expected in 2008.

These vehicles and other equipment represent the United States Government’s strong support for the LAF.  In the past two years, more than $271 million dollars in grant assistance has been provided to the LAF.  The United States is committed to supporting and strengthening the LAF, an institution of the Government of Lebanon, and the Lebanese people.
