U.S. Government Resettles Iraqi Refugees from Lebanon
September 27, 2007
Today, the Embassy of the United States of America announces that 67 Iraqi refugees who have been living in Lebanon departed for resettlement in the United States. Overall, 80 Iraqi refugees who had been living in Lebanon have been resettled in the United States in the last several months. They will be resettled in various parts of the United States from North Dakota to Vermont and provided assistance to help them start their new lives.
The United States has been the single largest contributor to humanitarian assistance for Iraqis. The United States worked with the Government of Lebanon, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and the International Catholic Migration Commission to ensure the safe resettlement of these refugees.
