U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey D. Feltman visited a food production center in Zahleh on September 19, 2007. The center is a first-of-its-kind pilot plant which specializes in fruit and vegetable products. These products include jams, pickles, and, dried and frozen products. The center provides specialized services to assist small and medium-sized agricultural cooperatives and individual food processors in developing products, testing these products, and, and prolonging product shelf life. The center also disseminates the results of its research and technical information throughout the the Beqaa. USAID funded the establishment of this center in partnership with ACDI-VOCA (Agriculture Cooperative Development International/Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance) and the Zahleh Chamber of Commerce.
