U.S. Embassy Calls for Proposals to Preserve Lebanon’s Cultural Heritage
January 4, 2008
The U.S. Embassy in Beirut is now accepting proposals for the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) 2008 competition. The AFCP supports the preservation of: objects from a museum, site, archive, or similar institution; cultural sites; and forms of traditional and cultural expression such as music, dance, and language. The application deadline is January 28, 2008.
The U.S. Congress in 2001 established the AFCP, the only U.S. government program providing direct small grant support to heritage preservation. The AFCP emphasizes the United States’ commitment to preserving the world’s cultural heritage and affirms that preservation is an integral component of U.S. foreign relations. To date, the AFCP has funded six projects in Lebanon.
