January 2, 2008
The United States Government delivered 100 two and a one half ton cargo trucks, commonly known as “deuce and a halfs,” to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) the week of December 22, 2007. This truck delivery is the latest in a series of equipment deliveries to assist the LAF. By the end of January 2008, the U.S. will have provided 200 cargo trucks with more expected throughout 2008. In addition, the U.S. recently provided to the LAF ammunition worth more than $3.5 million, fulfilling a request made by the government of Lebanon.
These deliveries represent the United States Government’s continued strong support for the Lebanese military. In the past two years, the U.S. has provided more than $271 million dollars in grant assistance to the LAF. The United States is committed to supporting and strengthening the LAF and other institutions of the Lebanese state.
