U.S. Assistant Secretary for International Organization Affairs Visits Lebanon

The U.S. Assistant Secretary for International Organization Affairs, Brian Hook, visited Lebanon October 29 through November 1. During his visit, Assistant Secretary Hook met with a number of United Nations representatives in Lebanon, including the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL). The United States is one of the major contributors to UNRWA in Lebanon. To date, the U.S. has contributed $23.5 million to UNRWA for Nahr al-Barid reconstruction.
Assistant Secretary Hook’s visit demonstrates the United States’ continuing commitment to Lebanon. Since 2006, the United States has committed over $1 billion to Lebanon. The United States supports the government of Lebanon and its institutions as they continue to safeguard the peace, unity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
