U.S. Embassy Seeks Candidates for Mid-Career Study in U.S.

May 11, 2005

The U.S. Embassy is seeking candidates for the 2006-07 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program for Mid-Career Professional Study in the United States. This program provides mid-level professionals with an opportunity to enhance their professional capabilities through participation in specialized, 10-month, non-degree programs developed specifically for small clusters of Humphrey Fellows at selected U.S. universities. Applications are due September 9, 2005 and are available on the Embassy website http://lebanon.usembassy.gov.

Candidates should be between 35-50 years old, and have at least seven years professional experience. Strong English is required. Applications will be accepted from a broad range of fields, however, this year, the Embassy will give priority to the following specializations:

  • Communications/Journalism
  • Public Policy Analysis and Public Administration
  • Economic Development
  • Finance and Banking
  • Law and Human Rights

The Embassy hopes to attract diverse and competitive applicants. Professionals who have not attended an American university, who live and work outside of Beirut, and women, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Humphrey Program was initiated in 1978 to honor the memory and accomplishments of the late Senator and Vice-President, Hubert H. Humphrey. Fellows are selected based on their potential for national leadership and commitment to public service, in either the public or private sector. The Program provides a basis for establishing long-lasting productive partnerships and relationships between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in other countries, including Lebanon, fostering an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding throughout the world. Eighteen Lebanese professionals have been selected for this prestigious program since its inception—including two who will travel to the United States for the 2005-06 program.
