June 23, 2005

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef attended Al-Tilal Institute’s Certificate Distribution ceremony in Maad – Jbeil on June 23, 2005.

USAID has provided ALDEC with $50,000 to procure equipment for Al-Tilal’s training center to facilitate the training of an average of 240 women per year at Al-Tilal Institute. The purpose of the training is to expand the rural women’s capacity to be part of the income generating activities in their own villages. The program trains women on hospitality, languages, sewing and handicrafts, management, marketing, and enterprise development, leadership program, and training of trainers. After taking this training course, these women will be better equipped with the skills and know-how to contribute to the tourist development of the different Lebanese areas they come from.

This assistance falls under USAID’s Small Awards Program, which helps Lebanese organizations working in the field of humanitarian assistance, economic opportunities, and social welfare improve the lives of Lebanese citizens within their respective communities.

Today, 50 women are successfully graduating from this training course and will receive certificates.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has worked in Lebanon since 1951, funding development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. USAID’s program promotes economic opportunities, job creation, good governance and environmental policies and practices in rural Lebanon. USAID provides $35 million in assistance each year and works in partnership with U.S. and Lebanese organizations throughout the country. USAID strengthens the relationship between the people of Lebanon and the people of the United States, and promotes a shared vision of democracy and socio-economic development.
