USAID Gives $82,000 to Two Lebanese Organizations

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef presented on July 21, 2005 checks to two Lebanese organizations working in the fields of orphan care and Alzheimer patients’ medical care.
The two projects will directly benefit 180 individuals from throughout Lebanon, and create 16 permanent jobs.
USAID granted funds to the following organizations:
1) $35,000 to the Lebanese Association of SOS Children’s Villages in Ksarnaba to equip the new completed units of the village and for purchasing office equipment for the village’s administrative section. USAID’s assistance will help SOS expand its mission and services into the deprived areas of the Beqaa region. At least 40 orphans will be educated annually to become productive and independent citizens.
2) $47,000 to Alzheimer’s Association Lebanon in Beirut, to support the association’s caregiver program, the patients’ humanitarian assistance program and to develop the administrative capabilities of the association. 2,000 copies of the Alzheimer Patient’s Care Guide will also be published in Arabic and distributed to caregivers nationwide. 30,000 individuals suffer from Alzheimer disease in Lebanon.
