USAID Gives $33,000 to Elementary School in Jounieh

October 12, 2005

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef visited the site of a USAID-funded project in Jounieh on October 12, 2005. The Friends of the Public School/Paradis d’Enfants in Jounieh received $33,000 from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to procure equipment to improve the educational services and facilities of the school. More than 600 students aged between 3 and 12 years old are enrolled at the school, and will directly benefit from USAID’s donation. The non-profit school has purchased equipment such as classroom furniture, educational and multimedia materials to enhance the services it offers to students.

The donation is a gift from the American people to the Lebanese people through USAID/Lebanon’s Small Awards program, which provides assistance to indigenous non-governmental organizations working in the fields of humanitarian assistance, socio-economic development and environmental issues.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has worked in Lebanon since 1951, funding development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. USAID’s program promotes economic opportunities, job creation, good governance and environmental policies and practices in rural Lebanon. USAID provides $35 million assistance a year and works in partnership with U.S. and Lebanese organizations throughout the country. USAID strengthens the relationship between the people of Lebanon and the people of the United States, and promotes a shared vision of democracy and socio-economic development.
