USAID Gives $47,000 to Alzheimer Association Lebanon

January 26, 2006

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef presented a check for $47,000 to the Alzheimer Association Lebanon, at their offices in Achrafieh, on January 26, 2006. The fund will enable the Alzheimer Association to equip the first office in Lebanon for serving Alzheimer patients, caregivers, and medical staff. The funds will also be used to buy medical equipment to be used by Alzheimer patients in elderly care centers and nursing homes, and to print 1000 copies of the first edition of Alzheimer Patient Care Guide in Arabic. USAID assistance aims at developing the Alzheimer Association Lebanon as an organization that improves the lives of marginalized Lebanese Alzheimer patients and their caregivers.

This assistance falls under USAID’s Small Awards Program, which supports the efforts of Lebanese organizations working in the field of humanitarian assistance, improving economic opportunities, and social welfare for advancing the lives of Lebanese citizens within their respective communities.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has worked in Lebanon since 1951, funding development projects to benefit Lebanese citizens. USAID’s program promotes economic opportunities, job creation, good governance and environmental policies and practices in rural Lebanon. USAID provides $35 million in assistance each year and works in partnership with U.S. and Lebanese organizations throughout the country. USAID strengthens the relationship between the people of Lebanon and the people of the United States, and promotes a shared vision of democracy and socio-economic development.
