USAID Presents $126,475 to Four Lebanese Organizations
February 10, 2006United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Lebanon Mission Director Raouf Youssef presented on February 3, 2006 checks in the amount of $126,475 to four Lebanese organizations working in the fields of health care services, social assistance and education.
USAID granted funds to the following organizations:
1. $20,875 to Irfan Establishment Irfan Hospital in Simkanieh in Chouf to equip the hospital with an anesthesia unit, thus helping the hospital reach the standards to pass the accreditation program and sustain contributions from the Ministry of Health. USAID’s assistance will allow the hospital to increase its capacity to accommodate 2,000 patients per month, coming from different Lebanese regions.
2. $14,600 to the Christian Association for the Blind in Dekwaneh to purchase computer and software systems specially designed for the visually impaired. Established in 1994 for the capacity building, socio-economic development and integration of the blind, the association serves more than 60 visually impaired individuals from throughout Lebanon. USAID’s assistance will help the association reach out to rural areas to provide computer training for the blind.
3. $50,000 to Association of Besancon Sisters in Baskinta to purchase computers, audio-visual materials and classroom furniture to enhance the school capabilities to cater for a larger number of students. The school currently accommodates 594 students from throughout Lebanon, including girls with social cases in the dormitory section.
4. $41,000 to the Missionary Sisters of the Saint Sacrement in Beit Habbak to enhance the school’s computer curriculum. The project will also provide computer access and Internet connectivity to members of the community in Beit Habbak and the surrounding area. The school accommodates 950 students including orphans.
