U.S. Embassy Announces Summer 2007 Institute for Secondary Educators

The Embassy of the United States in Lebanon is pleased to announce the Summer 2007 Study of the United States Institutes for Secondary Educators. The Institutes will provide groups of secondary educators with a more comprehensive understanding of U.S. politics, culture, and society. Through a variety of traditional, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches, the programs will elucidate the history and evolution of U.S. institutions and values, broadly defined, and have a strong contemporary component. The institutes serve to illuminate the contemporary political, social, and economic debates in American society.
The Institutes will take place over the course of six weeks beginning in mid June 2007.
Candidate Qualifications:
• Between the ages of 25-50, highly-motivated and experienced secondary educators, including secondary teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, ministry of education official, or other related professionals with responsibility for secondary education.
• Little or no prior experience in the United States.
• Ready to take part in an intensive post-graduate level academic program and study tour.
• Comfortable with campus life and an active program schedule.
Suggested Participant Specialization: American Studies, American Literature, American History, And English Language.
