The Lebanese Center for Civic Education (LCCE) – Arabcivitas, Lebanon held its Project Citizen Show case on August 27, 2007 at the UNESCO palace, Beirut. This event was funded by the US Department of State. Twenty seven English Access Microscholarship Program (ACCESS) public schools from all over Lebanon including rural areas participated and attended the event.  The U.S. State Department's ACCESS program empowers non-elite 14 to 18 year-olds in the Middle East and North Africa communities to study English. Since its inception, U.S. embassies have selected English teaching schools in 44 countries to enroll approximately 10,000 students in the English Access Microscholarship Program. In addition to English, the Program provides an American-style classroom experience using U.S. materials and emphasizing active learning. 778 students presented their final projects in front of jury panels that evaluate the students’ works and select the most outstanding projects. Projects include civic-education, conflict resolution, democracy and human rights. Over 50 educators, administrators from the ministry of education, and American Embassy representative were present to evaluate the student’s portfolios. Students who show excellent performance are given the opportunity to participate in regional and international showcases. Some student’s family was present to support their children.
