U.S. Support for Lebanon Remains Firm

Ambassador Feltman returned from Washington, D.C. where he attended the annual Chiefs of Mission conference for U.S. Ambassadors from the region. He also participated in a number of high level meetings focused on supporting Lebanon. Ambassador Feltman met with President Bush at the White House to discuss ways that Lebanon's international friends can support Lebanon. He also participated in a strategy session regarding Syria and Lebanon chaired by Secretary of State Rice. These meetings attest to the strong commitment of the United States to support Lebanon, to include support for Lebanon at the Paris III conference. The Ambassador also met with officials at the National Security Council and with the Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns. Among the topics discussed were means to accelerate and increase assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
