International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP)
The U.S. Embassy in Beirut invites Lebanese secondary school teachers to apply for the International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP). ILEP is a semester-long scholarship program in the U.S. designed for teachers to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge of the United States. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the ILEP consists of a semester-long (January – May 2013) academic program at a U.S. university followed by an eight-week internship at a secondary school. Lebanese participants will engage with American teachers and students during the internship. Visits to U.S. cultural sites and academic support are important components of the ILEP.
The application deadline is April 27, 2012.
The ILEP is a unique opportunity for full-time secondary school teaching professionals with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and five or more years of classroom experience in English as a foreign language, social studies, civics, mathematics, or sciences.
Participants must have a proficiency in written and spoken English (finalists will be required to take the TOEFL exam), and must also continue teaching in Lebanon for at least five years after completion of the program.
This full scholarship includes round-trip airfare between Lebanon and the United States, academic fees, one laptop computer, medical insurance, accommodation and an allowance for meals and incidentals.
