Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program (NESA UGRAD) - Deadline January 6, 2009 

The Near East and South Asia Undergraduate (NESA UGRAD) Exchange Program, sponsored the U.S. Department of State, provides opportunities for current freshman and sophomore undergraduate students, as well as students in their final year of secondary school, for one semester or one academic year of full-time, non-degree study in the United States during the 2009-10 academic year.

Participants will be enrolled at two- and four-year institutions. Participants will live on-campus with an American roommate.

The NESA UGRAD Program will cover a participant’s:

  • J-1 visa fee,
  • Round-trip travel from Lebanon to the host institution in the United States,
  • Health insurance,
  • Tuition and mandatory university fees (including required books and supplies),
  • Room and board (housing and meals),
  • Maintenance allowance, and
  • Enrichment allowance.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be considered without respect to race, color, religion, or gender. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Competition for the NESA UGRAD Program is merit-based and open to anyone who:

  • Is a Lebanese citizen or a legal, long-term Palestinian resident in Lebanon;
  • Is in his/her final year of secondary school or enrolled as a freshman or sophomore student in a full-time undergraduate program at the time of application at a registered academic institution in Lebanon and is in good academic standing. Part-time students or correspondence students are not eligible;
  • Submits a complete application with ALL required documents by the application deadline (NOTE: TOEFL scores are NOT required at the time of application). Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted;
  • Is able to begin the academic exchange program in the United States as early as August 2009;
  • Is able to qualify for and maintain a J-1 visa;
  • Is committed to returning to Lebanon after completing the program; and
  • Is proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application.

NESA UGRAD applications must arrive at the U.S. Embassy in Awkar by 4:30pm on Monday, January 6, 2009. Address your envelope to Public Diplomacy, U.S. Embassy.  Applications may be sent via mail (PO Box 70-840, Antelias) or delivered to the reception window of the U.S. Embassy.
