2005 Speeches
Remarks by Ambassador Jeffrey D. Feltman at Opening of Made in America Trade Fair
Nov. 7, 2005
I am extremely proud to welcome all of you to the opening of the third annual trade fair promoting U.S. products and services, “Made in America 2005.” Showcasing the goods and services of 314 U.S. companies, this year’s event is bigger than ever, and reflects the American business community’s optimism in the economic potential of Lebanon.
The United States accords great importance to its relationship with Lebanon, and remains firmly committed to working with the Government and people of Lebanon to realize their dream of a stable, prosperous and democratic country. We recognize the great potential of the private sector to promote economic growth in Lebanon, and thus see an opportunity for American business to participate. We’re proud of America’s dynamic free-market economy and are eager to contribute our “Made in America” energy and know how to increase economic opportunities for the people of both our countries.
The presence of U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Elizabeth Dibble here tonight underscores America’s commitment to Lebanon. Thank you Liz for traveling from Washington for this Made in America opening. Similarly, I thank His Excellency Minister of Foreign Affairs Sallouk for representing Prime Minister Siniora here tonight.
Let me also thank two other important partners in our Made in America
trade fair: The American-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce and Raidy Printing Press.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. Together, Lebanese and American,
private and public sector, we represent a very strong team. What we share is a
commitment to the vision of Lebanon as a thriving free-market economy, employing
Lebanon’s talented and educated youth, and strengthening Lebanese-American
business and trade. I look to Made in America 2005 to further strengthen the
friendship, mutual respect and partnership between our two countries—Lebanon and
the United States. I am confident that working together we can secure a more
prosperous and promising future for us all.
